You will need some fitness for this hike. The hiking area is characterized in particular by the large number of old trees and a great diversity of species.

The Ebbemoore moors, created by the harsh and rainy climate, contain areas of peat moss-rich montane spring, transition and heath moors, bog birch and alder swamp forests. There are also areas of wet and poor grassland, as well as calcareous grassland. Watercourses with underwater vegetation also offer variety. There are also heathland areas with juniper stands and various types of heathland.

A special feature is that Atlantic, continental and sub-Mediterranean plant species have settled here outside their distribution limits.

If you are lucky, you may see or hear animals such as the boreal owl, pygmy owl, gray-headed woodpecker, black woodpecker, kingfisher, etc.

Directions

The starting point of the hike is the "Potsdamer Platz" in the Meinerzhagen district of Valbert, a popular meeting place with a fountain, benches, flower beds and the sculptures "Ingrid and Fred".Walk up "Schulstraße" and turn right in front of the school. Follow the sign with the "X" ("X12") uphill. Cross "Ebbestraße" and walk past the "Haus am Ebbehang" leisure center and "Landhaus Nordhelle". Cross "Ebbestraße" again and now turn half right onto a beautiful forest path, the former "Kirchweg". You pass the "Auerhahnbergweg", continue along the "X", pass the "Ebbestraße" and follow the signposts on the left. Via the "Höhweg", the "X 11", you now walk in a south-westerly direction for about 3 km along a beautiful forest and panoramic path. Continue right along a tarred road following the "X". After about 800 m, Schwenke left down into the valley. The hiking sign is now the "square". After a while, you will see the village of Westebbe on the right. Stay left and follow the path through the forest into the Quellental valley. Keep left at the "Quellental" sign and cross the Hösinghausen stream after about 50 m on the right. A steep forest path leads uphill. At the top, you will pass a forest meadow on the right and walk down the meadow path to Valbert to the starting point, Potsdamer Platz.
