The viewpoint was built on an old water reservoir. It is located on the KuLTour, a circular hiking trail on which many different art objects can be viewed. The Bigge-Lister trail also runs along this point.

The elevated tank was built in 1965 to supply water to the Drolshagen district of Bühren. Water was pumped from a spring below Bühren into this tank and stored so that it could then be fed back to Bühren at sufficient pressure. The system was in operation until 2009, when Bühren was connected to the central water supply. The elevated tank is still used today as a fire-fighting water reservoir.
