The Biggesee passenger boat service is starting the new season on March 23 with an environmentally friendly upgrade - the ships MS Westfalen and MS Bigge are now electric. The two electric-powered ships are allowed to use the abbreviation "E" in front of the "MS". Particularly noteworthy is the EMS Westfalen, which has been gliding on the water emission-free since last year. But the EMS Bigge is also setting an example for sustainable transportation: Its four diesel engines have been successfully replaced by electric motors. The conversion will save 90 to 110 tons of carbon dioxide.
With this pioneering step, Biggesee Passenger Shipping is positioning itself as a pioneer in environmental protection and sustainable mobility. The electrification of the fleet not only contributes to the reduction of air pollutants and noise pollution, but also sends a strong signal for the protection of our natural waters. The EMS Westfalen already proved its reliability and performance in electric operation last season. Now the EMS Bigge is following suit, and its successful conversion to electric propulsion marks another milestone on the road to sustainable shipping.
