There is a QR code on each (themed) information board, which you can use to call up the route and details of the trail. Selected information boards are equipped with an additional QR code. Exciting additional digital information is waiting to be discovered by you.
As guests in the forest, we show understanding, respect and correct behavior to ensure the use, protection and recreation of our forest.
The trail starts at the parking lot of the Fürwiggetalsperre dam, at the almost 30 m high and 166 m long dam wall. The circular hiking trail runs along the high trail. If you "only" want to walk around the Fürwigge, you can also choose the circular route along the shore. On the themed trail above the dam, information boards provide information about the local flora and fauna.
An information board also deals with the marshland in the Ebbegebirge: the water-saturated slope and spring moors provide a habitat for rare flowers and grasses; marsh fritillary, cotton grass and bog lily can still be admired here. The black stork and tawny owl have their reserves here, as do rare species of butterflies threatened with extinction.
The Fürwiggetalsperre is a drinking water reservoir. It is therefore forbidden to walk on the banks; however, the two forest sofas (on the circular path along the banks) offer relaxation "by the water".
Special features along the way: in addition to the information boards with exciting information and some QR codes for further videos or audio tracks, you can also discover an adventure treasure chest and a panoramic picture frame along the way.
The long loop around the popular Fürwiggetalsperre dam definitely scores points with its views of the water. Forest paths and small roads lead along above the dam and provide great views again and again, before the trail also meets the dam shore path.Trail conditionsAsphalt & road: 2.9 km - Gravel path: 4.2 km - Nature trail: 1.2 kmWe start at the Fürwiggetalsperre dam parking lot and cross the dam wall. Now we do not follow the direct dam circular route, but keep left and follow the path up the mountain. We cross a section of forest before keeping right at the next junction - further up the hill. The first exciting hiking information board awaits hikers here.We now reach the small settlement of Buschhöh before the path disappears into the forest again for a short time. Further on, we reach the Beckerhof forest ranger station, with a great first view of the dam.Following the path, we keep right at the next fork, whereupon the dam comes into view again after a while: a great view. The next hiking board provides further interesting information. The path now continues above the Fürwiggetalsperre until we keep right at another fork and - after a few meters downhill - reach the dam's shore path. Shortly before the fork, there is a small viewing point with a forest sofa and information board; a small, landscaped path leads "around the back" to the adventure site. Following the path, we finally return to our starting point.
First aid: In an emergency, dial the emergency number 112 and state the rescue point number. Rescue points are access points marked in the forest for rescue vehicles. If the nearest rescue point is not known, your location can be called up directly via AML (Advanced Mobile Location) during the emergency call.
Nearby, the Landhaus Stottmert (Stottmert 1, Herscheid, www.landhaus-stottmert.de) invites you to linger. Café-restaurant, vacation apartments.
The small viewing point above the Fürwiggetalsperre dam with information board and forest sofa can be reached"around the back" via a small, landscaped path.
