The hike along the "Veischede Sun Trail" is not entirely undemanding. However, you will be rewarded with wonderful views of pretty half-timbered towns and wide fields and forests - and the "Lowwerhannes snack board".
If you are fit and athletically ambitious, you can complete the "Veischede Sun Trail" in Sauerland in one day. The circular trail, which leads through the Sauerland Veischede Valley, is only 37 kilometers long. But it would be a shame if there wasn't enough time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings: for example, the view of the pretty half-timbered villages nestled in the valley or the vast fields and forests. One of the highlights along the way is also Burg Bilstein, which was built in the 13th century and is now used as a youth hostel. The castle courtyard is perfect for bringing your own picnic. Hiking groups can also take a break at the youth hostel by prior arrangement.
A special tip for refreshments along the way is the "Lowwenhannes snack board", which is offered in many establishments along the way. The snack is named after Johann II, the last nobleman who lived at Burg Bilstein and died in 1365. His ghost is said to still roam the woods around the castle today. Those who receive the snack are served fresh Sauerland grey bread, homemade sausage and ham and a herbal schnapps.
The "Veischede Sonnenpfad" has carried the "Wanderbares Deutschland" quality trail seal of approval since 2013.
Just 15 km from the Sauerland motorway (A45), the gently rolling landscape of the southern Sauerland welcomes you. Enjoy and discover imposing heights, the spicy, clear air and the views of the valley with its pretty half-timbered villages on the Veischede Sun Trail.
Hike one stage from village to village or the whole loop (approx. 10-12 hours), stop for a bite to eat or stay overnight in one of the restaurants, hotels or guesthouses in the Veischedetal gastronomy area, where the friendly hosts will be happy to welcome and serve you.

Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?
In an emergency, things have to happen quickly! That's why the Veischede Sun Trail is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white plaques attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.
