Two-castle path Attendorn

The hike starts at Burg Schnellenberg, situated above Attendorn. It is an excursion destination that should not be missed by anyone visiting Attendorn and the Biggesee. After all, it is the largest castle complex in the whole of Südwestfalen. The hike leads directly from the parking lot in front of the castle complex into the Sauerland forests. From Burg Schnellenberg, the route follows the panoramic ridgeway down to Burgruine Waldenburg. The route continues down to Waldenburg Bay, along the Biggetal dam towards Biggedamm. From here, the route leads up to the "Biggeblick" Aussichtsplattform. Here you can enjoy a special kind of view. The route then follows forest paths back to Burg Schnellenberg.

Experienced hikers can easily complete the 16 km in one tour. However, those who prefer shorter tours have the option of walking the trail in two loops. There is the 8.2 km long "Waldenburg loop", which leads along the Biggesee and the Biggeblick viewing platform. The start and finish of this loop is the parking lot at the Waldenburg campsite. On this tour, it is also worth making a detour to the Burgruine Waldenburg, from where you have a great view of the Biggesee. There is also the 8.6 km long "Schnellenberg loop". This starts and ends at Burg Schnellenberg and leads through the woods over the ridges back to the castle. Both loops have a few meters of ascent to overcome, but they are also doable for less experienced hikers. The trail is attractive at any time of year, as it always offers new insights and views into nature.
