Attendorn, Windhausen
The stage begins at the parking lot in Windhausen on Plettenberg Straße. The Sauerland-Höhenflug crosses the L 697 and first leads through Windhausen. At the end of the village, the path climbs slightly and reaches the Rehbigenholte panoramic viewpoint above Windhausen. A shelter and some benches invite you to take a break and enjoy the wonderful view over the land of a thousand mountains. On a clear day, the view extends not only over Attendorn, Burg Schnellenberg and Hohe Bracht, but also as far as the Hunauturm and the Rothaargebirge. A large panorama board provides information about the peaks of the Sauerland. The Sauerland-Höhenflug leads along the panorama trail and through Kyrill areas to the Vierkreuze refuge, where numerous hiking trails meet and the view extends far into the Märkischer Kreis. Here we leave the Sauerland-Höhenflug and take a sharp left onto the unmarked forest path. This leads in an arc parallel to the Sauerland-Höhenflug back to the Rehbigenholte rest area. The Sauerland-Höhenflug takes you back to the Windhausen parking lot, where the path is not cleared in winter. However, due to the high frequency of use, the wide paths and the open areas, it is usually easy to walk even when there is a lot of snow.
It is particularly important to take a cell phone with you on winter hikes. Sturdy shoes and warm clothing should be a matter of course.
