In the early 1990s, the BUND Lippetal local group, with the cooperation of the municipality of Lippetal, set up the "Hedge nature trail in Kesseler" to the north-east of Lippetal-Herzfeld.
The original idea was to present typical elements of a mature cultural landscape of the Münsterland and to draw attention to a landscape that has been created by human activity and in part can only be preserved in its current state as a result.
The nature trail includes explanations of over 20 native tree species and a Landwehr that is still clearly visible in parts due to its relief. Over a length of 3.7 km, the nature trail stretches from the eastern edge of Herzfeld through the northern part of the village to the district of Kesseler. The route partly follows the Roman route.
The hedgerow nature trail uses simple descriptions to draw attention to the diversity of native woody species, their overall ecological value and their importance for the development and conservation of the area. It is laid out along well-developed country lanes and is therefore easily accessible for all interested parties.
