Attendorn is three times unique!

A strong economy, lively customs and lots of nature come together here - that's why Attendorn is "three times unique".

Space for special time-outs and relaxation
The successful Hanseatic town with around 25,000 inhabitants offers more than eight centuries of history and eventful developments. As the most industrialized municipality in the Olpe district and home to world market leaders, Attendorn is of great importance for the region's job market. The charm of the Altstadt, some extraordinary sights and the rural backdrop in the villages characterize Attendorn and offer space for special time-outs and relaxation.

Attractive hiking and cycling trails
Pack your hiking boots or take your bike on a short journey into the past of an 800-year-old Hanseatic town. The varied landscape offers the best conditions for numerous outdoor activities and guarantees oases of peace: Hiking in the idyllic Repetal or on the Sauerland-Höhenflug, cycling on miles of cycle paths or water sports and relaxation with magnificent views of the Biggesee.

Numerous excursion destinations
In the densely wooded low mountain range landscape, vacation guests will find warm hospitality in sophisticated hotels with wellness facilities as well as cozy guesthouses and vacation apartments. There are numerous excursion destinations in the immediate vicinity that can be perfectly combined into a successful day trip. For example, visit the South Sauerland Museum, Burg Schnellenberg or the stalactite cave "Atta-Höhle", the largest in Germany, and take the Biggolino, a small train, up to the Biggesee. From there, you can walk to the "BiggeBlick", a unique Aussichtsplattform Biggeblick high above the lake with a breathtaking view. Afterwards, enjoy a boat trip across the Biggesee and stop off at one of the many lovely restaurants in Attendorn in the evening.

Stroll through historic charm
The medieval town center with its winding alleyways and attractive townscape makes a visit to the Hanseatic town an extraordinary experience. If you walk along the "Wallen" around the historic city center, you will see pretty old buildings with elaborately designed facades as well as the Bieke and Powder Towers, witnesses of the old city fortifications. Experience the unique city and adventure tours through the Hanseatic town of Attendorn with the market woman Hulda or our night watchman.

Attendorn's town center offers a wide range of shopping opportunities with a large number of owner-managed stores. On Saturdays, people meet at the weekly market to "shop and chat", and an attractive program of events provides the best entertainment all year round.

Drolshagen

Drolshagen - the short way to nature

Drolshagen can look back on a lively history that goes back well before the town was founded in 1477. The church and monastery are impressive architectural monuments from this period. They still characterize the townscape today.

Drolshagen has been a state-approved health resort since November 2022.

Ideal starting point for hikes and cycle tours
57 small and larger villages belong to the Drolshagen region. It offers around 200 km of signposted circular hiking trails and numerous opportunities to stop for a bite to eat. A hiking paradise that you should discover! Drolshagen is integrated into an attractive, supra-regional cycle path network that meets a wide range of requirements. From here, you can cycle through the Sauerland and the Bergisches Land, whether you're an ambitious cyclist or an e-biker.

Experience nature and art
Drolshagen has a special offer for creative people and art lovers. The approximately 7 km long 'KuLTour', a hiking trail on which over 20 works of art made from natural materials can be viewed in a beautiful landscape, is located directly on Listersee (bottom right). The almost 5 km long 'zeichenKURS' is located between Siebringhausen and Essinghausen. At 6 stations, you will receive instructions and tips for independent drawing in nature.

Ideal location for your time out in nature
In Drolshagen and its villages, you can stay overnight in hotels, inns, private guesthouses, vacation apartments or on the campsite, just as you wish. The local gastronomy tempts you with specialties in a cosy atmosphere.

Also worth seeing are the historic market square with the surrounding half-timbered houses and the St. Clemens parish church, a Romanesque basilica with an extension from the 1960s.

The new, much-acclaimed altarpiece by artist Thomas Jessen is a modern interpretation of Mary's so-called gift of the girdle to the unbelieving Thomas. The historic remains of the town wall and the rectory are located in the immediate vicinity.

The Biggequelle has its source in the Wenden district of Römershagen. A stream littered with coarse stones collects the still small amount of spring water and, after 16 km, fills one of Germany's largest reservoirs, the Biggesee. To ensure a steady flow of water into the Ruhr, it is mainly used to store raw water for the Ruhrgebiet.

Our tips:

The Wenden Ironworks is a technical cultural monument with an ironworks and hammer mill as well as a museum on the history of iron.

The Dörnschlade pilgrimage chapel was built in the middle of the 19th century. The miraculous image, a depiction of Mary with the child, is attributed to the Renaissance. A hermitage was built in the immediate vicinity in 1865.

The fair in Wenden is the largest folk festival with an animal show in Südwestfalen and has been held since 1752.

The Biggequelle is located near the district of Römershagen and fills one of the largest reservoirs in Germany after 16 km.

The Fahlenscheid ski area in Olpe in the Ebbegebirge mountains offers well-groomed slopes for beginners and advanced skiers in extensive terrain - ideal for skiers and snowboarders who want to glide down the slopes. Even after work, the floodlights ensure unadulterated skiing fun. A highlight for families is the new children's area with conveyor belt, which introduces young ski beginners to the world of winter sports in a playful way. If you don't have your own equipment, there is a ski and snowboard rental shop right next to the piste.

For those who are fascinated by ski jumps, a visit to the Meinhardus Mattenschanzen in Meinerzhagen is well worthwhile. Watch brave ski jumpers soar into the air.

Fast-paced winter fun awaits families on the toboggan slope near Schallershaus in Meinerzhagen. Here, young and old whizz down the snow-covered slopes on sledges, accompanied by bright children's laughter and the pure joy of movement.

In addition to the winter sports on offer, the idyllic winter hikes in the Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park offer a unique opportunity to experience the beauty of the region. The famous "Sauerland-Höhenflug" long-distance hiking trail invites you to enjoy magical tours through the snow-covered landscape in winter - with magnificent views of the white forests and snow-covered peaks of the Ebbegebirge.

After an active day in the winter landscape, enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the region's cafés and restaurants. Indulge in hot drinks and local delicacies while you enjoy the peace and beauty of winter.

For those who want to enjoy the camping experience all year round, many campsites also offer permanent pitches - both for the summer and winter seasons and as annual pitches. So you can spend the warm season by the lake or enjoy the peaceful winter landscape in the Sauerland.

Many of the campsites also offer the option of renting accommodation already on site, such as modern caravans, cozy sleeping barrels or inviting log cabins - ideal for guests arriving without their own equipment or simply wanting to try something new. Dogs are also very welcome at many campsites, so nothing stands in the way of a vacation with your four-legged friend.
